What to bring on your Conservation Placement?

  • Lightweight clothes, some long sleeves and trousers to keep sand flies and mosquitoes off
  • Old cloths you don't mind getting dirty to work in
  • Something casual for evenings and weekends
  • A set of warm cloths (the weather can get cold at times)
  • Box Mosquito Net (20 Soles)
  • Bed Sheets (35 Soles) travel towel or hand towel is adequate)
  • Swimming gear (15-25 Soles)
  • Towel (12 Soles)
  • Waterproofs (especially for the wet season) (15 Soles)
  • Wellies (especially for the wet season) Smaller sizes can be bought in Puerto Maldonado (20 Soles)
  • Torch (10 Soles)
  • Sun hat (15-20 Soles)
  • Basic toiletries (Toothbrush (3 Soles), Tooth Paste (2 Soles), Razor (2 Soles), nail clippers (4 Soles), ECT)
  • Insect repellent (DEET is good)
  • Walking boots
  • Trainers/Sandals for inside the lodge/Sports
  • Sleeping bag (Either Liner, Bag or bed sheets)
  • Sleeping bag (Especially if you plan to travel to colder climates)
  • Medical kit (Plasters, re-hydration salts, anti-diuretics, ECT and any special medicine you may need)
  • Sun cream
  • Lip salve
  • Socket adapter
  • Day bag (Small back pack)
  • Good guide book (Footprints and Journey Latin America are good)
  • A few good novels
  • Binoculars
  • Camera (Digital or Photographic)
  • Ipod/Diskman/Walkman
  • Photo copy of passport and important/expensive items (This is important if you loose any items)
  • Spanish dictionary/phrase book
  • Address book with family and friends details
  • Travellers checks (American Express only) and/or Credit card (Any type of Visa)
